4 films Analysis
The Gunfighter
The Gunfighter starts of with an enigma code straight away with a long shot showing a cowboy walking down the side of a saloon. The man we learn to know as the gunfighter has his hat down so we can't figure out who it is until this is revealed. This keeps the audience engaged as they are awaiting this information to be given to them. It doesn't reveal a lot about the film but the mis-en-scene sug gests its a western. I would want to incorporate this enigma code into my film sequence as it would allow me to create interest for one of my main characters in my story. The voice over is also used very well to create comedic affect as it doesn't fit the normal stereotype of a regular voice over. The fact that the actors break down the fourth wall and react and speak to the voice over is very funny as well. I'm thinking of doing something serious but whacky so this maybe a good tool to use to accomplish this.
Curfew
From Curfew, i particularly like the idea of focusing around the story around two characters who are polar opposites and the course of the film shows the growth of understanding between them and how they grow to love each other. It has a lot of two shots to show that both characters have equal importance and they are responsible for each other in this story. I also enjoyed the opening shot of this film. the tracking shot towards the phone tells us nothing about the story and i love the enigma. Also the non-diegetic music is so peaceful but i got the suspicion from the mis-en-scene that it was the opposite of that and they went together so well. The colour pallet of red indicates blood and death. Even though this is what we initially see, its an uncle reconnecting with his niece so this made me have a more preffered reading as i had to pay more attention as to where the story is going.
Connect
Connect doesn't use any dialogue throughtout the film as the feelings and the emotions from the actors are put across throught the shots and editing. For example, the shot reverse shots from the close up of the girls face looking at the man to the close up of her hand and this shows a flirtatious atmosphere and these shots are replicated from the mans perspective. The shots in the scene are very close, which could be trying to replicate how cramped the bus is and despite the environment, the idea of being in each others company makes the situation more bareable. I didn't understand the dancing at the end. It didn;t fit the mis-en-scene and it felt out of place from the rest of the film.
Wasp
Wasp has adopted the social-realistic genre of filmaking. These are made up of tracking shots and that is used at the very start of the film, tracking the various members of the family. Its the idea of going nowhere fast. The mis-en-scene is very grim as the young girls are filthy and the locations look very rough. There is High key lighting used around Danny Dyer. This could be seen as a way of fantasizing him to the other characters but also a way of showing he is better of than the woman as well.
