How Does the aesthetic quality of "Trainspotting" depict ideological issues of youth and addiction? The opening sequence starts off with a low angled mid shot of the streets of Edinburgh as we see two sets of legs appear on the screen.  There is a straight cut as soon as the legs appear to a mid two-person shot as these two men are running away from the police. One of the character is closer to the camera than the other so this could be an early indicator to establish who is more critical to the plot and who the story revolves around. The fact that they are running away from law enforcement conveys the idea that they have broken the law and this gives youth a negative depiction in society as they are causing chaos. The chaos is emphasized by the quick cuts that are about to follow in the scene. The colour pallet is made of dull colours like brown and grey, which creates a lifeless and pointless atmosphere and could tell the audience that these characters fell out of place i...
“The director is the most important influence on a film” Compare how far your two chosen films support this statement. The two films I have selected for this question is Blade Runner (1992 directors cut) and The Lady From Shanghai (1947) and the directors in question are Ridley Scott and Orson Welles. The Auteur Theory is “create your own visual style… let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” Orson Welles. The Lady From Shanghai was made in 1947 by Orson Welles starring himself and Rita Hayworth. This film was originally made to get Welles out of Debt because he went over budget for a stage production of around the world in 80 days and he owed IRS Money. The film had a budget of 2.5 million in which Welles went overbudget due to shotting in far locations such as Nicargarua and San Fransisco   , increasing costs on travel and accommodation. Welles wanted full control of the film and had his actress Rita Hayworth hair bleached and cut, which angered Har...

Discuss how important cinematography is in establishing strong responses from spectators to a key character in "La La Land". your answer must refer yo one scene in detail. The start of this sequence sees a mid shot zooming out to a long shot at a steady pace. This camera movement makes Seb the focus point of the shot and this helps me allign with the character. I see him as the cool guy who has a soft side to him and i can relate to that in a way as i see that in myself. At this point I was experiencing a preferred reading as  I enjoyed this time of the sequence as i really like the diegetic music with it as it is quite peaceful. This is supported by the spotlight shining on him as he is the only visible thing to the audience and this emphasises how important his character is to this story of love. The idea of him also playing a piano gives off a sense of romance. The diegetic music is slow, making the scene meaningful and i experienced an passive viewing as i accepted...

How Far does 'Winter's Bone' rely upon an understanding of its social context? Refer in detail to at least one sequence of film. In Winters Bone, This sequence opens up with a two person mid-shot, showing Ree and Tear drop. This shot shows that both characters have some connection, with Tear drop driving emphasises the idea of a patriarchal society as he has the power of where they are going. As this is an independent film, they tend to have longer takes and this fits the trend as it doesn't cut until 13 seconds into the sequence. They also have used only natural lighting to increase the idea of a naturalistic theme. I believe this harms the film as i absorbed everything from this shot within the first five seconds so the delaying of the cut gradually bored me as a viewer. The next few shots are close-up shot reverse shots going back from Ree and Teardrop. Tear Drop is a complex character that i have found an allegiance with how he carries himself, he is a very i...
